T he Liberal Democrat-run Cambridge City Council is proposing to award a grant of just over £250,000 to the Cambridge and District Citizens' Advice Bureau for another year to help with running costs.
Grant funding is set to be decided at the council's Community Services Scrutiny Committee in January, where the committee will discuss proposed funding grants for charities, community groups and the voluntary sector, and make recommendations to grants portfolio holder, Councillor Sarah Brown, on which grants to award.

Cambridge Liberal Democrats today (Wednesday, December 18) welcomed moves which would allow city residents to have their say on possible access through Bramblefields nature reserve to the city's new Science Park Station.
They had fought to make sure residents had as many options open to them as possible to protect the reserve, including investment to help improve it. Crucially they argued that city residents should make the final decision on how and if the route through should be included in the plans.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Rod Cantrill has called for urgent safety improvements to a major Cambridge road junction before someone is seriously injured or killed.
Cllr Cantrill, who represents Newnham on Cambridge City Council is worried about the junction of Barton Road, Newnham Road and Grantchester Street.

Julian Hupperty, visited the newly refurbished rehabilitation ward at Brookfields Hospital, Cambridge on Friday, 13 December 2013. The ward was officially re-opened back in November, after a temporary closure earlier this year.
During his visit to the 20 bedded Lord Byron Ward he stopped to have a chat with some of the residents and staff in the dining room, accompanied by Jackie Wray, Deputy Ward Manager and Matthew Winn, Chief Executive, CCS NHS Trust.

Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat Leader, Nick Clegg will be in Cambridge today (Thursday, December 12) to lay the foundations for the City Deal and a massive £6 million cash injection next year for the new Science Park station.
The news has been welcomed by Cambridge MP Julian Huppert and Cambridge City Council Leader, Tim Bick who have been working to secure the deal for the city and Greater Cambridge area.

Cambridge Lib Dems have proposed a major commitment to ease the city's housing shortage with an investment of £286 million over 30 years to build up to 2,000 new council homes.
The project will vastly increase the number of homes for rent and be a real bonus for the thousands of people on the council's housing waiting list.

Ten businesses which won monthly rounds of the competition are going head-to-head to be named the winner of Julian's Discovering Cambridge competition at the Mill Road Winter Fair.

MP Julian Huppert has welcomed help for Cambridge's young unemployed and small businesses in the Chancellor's Autumn Statement.
He said the doubling of higher level apprenticeships, training and more support through the Job Centres for 16 to 17-year-olds and tax incentives for companies to employ young people would help to get more into work and training.

Under the scheme the Treasury would plough some of the increase in national tax revenues coming from the growth in Greater Cambridge into housing and transport in the area.

Volunteers are joining Liberal Democrat councillors today (Thursday, November 28) to carry out a traffic survey at a dangerous Cambridge junction in a bid to get safety improvements.
The group are carrying out their traffic count in Fendon Road at its roundabout junction with Queen Edith's Way and Mowbray Road where recently three near miss accidents involving pedestrians and a cyclist were witnessed in just one hour.

Paralympic hopeful, Claire Connon will take Cambridge MP Julian Huppert and councillors on a wheelchair tour of the city on Friday (November 30) to highlight the state of the pavements.
Rower Claire, who is tipped for a place in the 2016 Rio Paralympics, will give the group first-hand experience of how difficult it is to navigate cracked and broken pavements in a wheelchair.

Cambridgeshire Police are to be asked to prioritise policing of 20mph speed limits in Cambridge when they come into force next year following a call from East Chesterton County Councillor, Ian Manning.
Cllr Manning gained support from his fellow councillors on the city's North Area Committee to formally raise the issue with the police to make sure the new limits are effective.

Caffe Sicilia, a family run business, was founded in 2011 and opened in Regent Street in June offering traditional Sicilian food and drink.

The consultation, which will run until December 25, has been welcomed by Cambridge City Executive Councillor for Environmental Services, Jean Swanson.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg used his speech to Liberal Democrat conference to announce that all pupils at infant schools in England are to get free school lunches from September 2014, with equivalent funding for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
In addition, disadvantaged students at sixth form colleges and further education colleges in England will also be eligible for free school meals also from next September. Money is also being provided for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but as education is a devolved issue, it will be up to those running schools there to decide whether to spend the money on free lunches.
