Ward Councillors are delighted that Newnham is going to be the recipient of thousands of pounds worth of funding thanks to successful developer contribution bids, which the local team supported.
Sheep’s Green will receive £40k for watercourse improvements and habitat creation, while Newnham Croft School will benefit from £12k for a stained glass window.
“Sheep’s Green was classed as a Local Nature Reserve in 2012, and is managed to increase natural diversity and to remain as a water meadow habitat. It is a precious local space,” said Cllr Sian Reid.
Smaller proposals, for the resurfacing of the Lammas Land tennis court and for audio equipment for St. Mark’s, will be considered on 3 December at West Central area committee.
The University of Cambridge have asked for funds towards two floodlit hockey pitches and changing facilities at Wilberforce Road, for community use. However, planning applications are needed so the bid was not ready to decide in this round.
