Huppert condemns killing of Israeli schoolboys and retaliation

Cambridge MP Julian Huppert has condemned the kidnapping of three Israeli schoolboys and the reprisal attacks on Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.

“I am shocked and outraged by the kidnapping and murder of these three innocent Israeli teenagers,” said Julian. My thoughts are with families of Gilad Shaer, Naftali Fraenkel and Eyal Yifrah.  This was a senseless act of appalling violence against three innocent young victims which has rightly outraged the world.

“But there can be no justification for the attacks of retaliation being carried out which have led to the murder of a Palestinian teenager. Civilians are suffering violence as tensions are mounting and there have been numerous indiscriminate arrests. This is not a sensible or proportionate reaction, and is likely to lead to even more deaths on both sides.
“We need an international call for restraint on both sides while official investigations take place. At the same time, we have to push forward with the peace process to find a long term solution to this conflict.”
