MP Julian Huppert called into Royal Mail’s Cambridge delivery office to meet the staff during its busiest time of the year.

Manager, David Munson and his team will handle almost 12 million more parcels and letters in the run up to Christmas than at any other time in the year.

The 919 permanent staff are joined by a further 124 workers to handle the 35.5 million items of mail at the Henley Road depot.

Julian said: “It was great to meet the hard-working postmen and women and see first-hand just how much effort they put in at this time of year. We heavily rely on them to get our presents and cards safely to their destinations.

“Posties do such an important job and I would like to thank them for their efforts and wish them all the best over the busy festive period.”

David Munson said: “Christmas is the busiest time of year, and our people really do pull out all the stops throughout the year to ensure mail is delivered quickly but even more so over the busy festive period. We are pleased that Dr Huppert came along to witness the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.”

“The postal staff do a fantastic job at this time of year to ensure that friends and families stay in touch through their Christmas greetings and gifts. And as usual, we urge our customers to post early so that friends and family have longer to enjoy their Christmas greetings.”
