As you will be aware we've been working over the last couple of years to ensure that you get the most flexible arrangement for a residents’ parking scheme possible.
Through long attempts to navigate through legal problems, bureaucracy, and Labour pushing ahead with the Ascham scheme, we believed we finally had an agreement: asking Ascham to expand to include your area in a larger scheme (illustrative map here - http://bit.ly/wch-ascham-parking-zone ).
We were expecting to be contacting you all in early January about helping with communicating with the Ascham Residents, who we need to let us change their zone.
After several delays, we recently found out that the ruling Conservative Group on the County Council has paused all work on residents’ parking schemes pending a review at the March meeting of Highways & Infrastructure Committee.
We are absolutely furious about this, and Cllr Ian Manning has taken a complaint to the Chief Executive of the Council. The longer the delay, the more the Ascham scheme will ‘bed in’ and the harder it will be to change.
The Conservatives are trying to put the needs of commuters travelling into Cambridge above your need to be able to safely navigate your streets – the same Conservative group who have ruined public transport in Cambridge and failed to provide a decent bus service for years.
We, who have signed this petition, demand that the County Council allow officers to go ahead with the agreed process whereby residents of the Ascham parking scheme will be asked for their consent to expand their zone to include the Elizabeth zones.
