MP’s Tiffin Cup restaurant highly commended

Cambridge’s Sitar Tandoori restaurant, nominated by the city’s MP Julian Huppert for the prestigious Tiffin Cup, has been highly commended.

Unfortunately the restaurant in Cherry Hinton High Street failed to make it into the grand final but Julian will present staff with a certificate and an embroidered Tiffin Cup 2013 chef’s jacket to mark their achievement.

The Tiffin Cup is a national competition run by a cross-party group of MPs called the Tiffin Club to promote the finest South Asian food.

It is the third time Julian has nominated restaurants from the city for the competition. Last year Saffron Brasserie was named as runners up in the regional finals and Cocum also narrowly missed a place in the final in 2011.

All proceeds from the competition will be donated to World vision which raises money to transform the lives of the poorest people in the developing world.

Julian said: “I am delighted that the Sitar Tandoori has been highly commended in the Tiffin Cup. It is a shame the restaurant did not manage to reach the final but the fact that the Sitar Tandoori was highly commended is testament to the high standards set by the staff.

“I am delighted that once again Cambridge has been recognised for its excellent South Asian food.”
