There are low level (from social media monitoring) suggestions that there could be a gathering on Midsummer Common on Saturday to mark the occasion that would have been Midsummer Fair.
To be clear: the information above came from the Police, no Councillors or Lib Dems have done any monitoring of people's social media[/edit]
Cllr Ian Manning has been in contact with the Police, City and County Councils about this.
The gathering is not authorised by the City Council and the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain (who run the fair itself) have restated their position that the Fair is cancelled.
Accordingly, the Police and both the City and County Council have resourced themselves to be able to respond to the eventuality that may arise. The numbers estimated are less than 100 people. and a proportionate command structure has been put in by the Police; City Council officers are available and parking wardens will be patrolling the area around the common.
If residents experience any difficulties over the weekend, crimes should be reported through 101 and for emergencies using 999. All other enquiries relating to street parking, the common, noise or impacts on the local community should be reported using the City Council Out of Hours Service. https://www.cambridge.gov.uk/contact-us 0300 303 8389
