Petition: Stop the Jesus Green Mast

2,207 of 2,500 signatures

Cambridge City Council has received a planning application to permit a 30 metre-high phone mast along with an extensive ground-based plant and equipment to be sited on the Jesus Green grass tennis courts. This will visually scar one of the city’s most iconic and well-used public open spaces, seriously harming its amenity value and conservation character.

The existing antenna is currently on top of the Park Street car park which the council plans to start demolishing for redevelopment this year without having identified a satisfactory alternative site elsewhere despite its responsibilities under national regulations.

Pictured below: this is what the 30 metre-high mast would look like on Jesus Green.

We call on Cambridge City Council to prevent a 30 metre-high phone mast from being erected on Jesus Green.

UPDATE: This petition was presented at a meeting of Cambridge City Council on 25th February 2021. Following our pressure, an alternative planning application has now been received proposing siting the mast on Bridge House (21/00864/FUL) - this is currently open for comment here.

UPDATE 2: An alternative site for the mast has been approved - thank you for all your support!
