TRUMPINGTON LIB DEMS CHALLENGE CITY COUNCIL TO FILL HOBSON SQUARE SHOPS
Trumpington still lacks the local shops that were planned as part of new community facilities on Hobson Square. Although the two City Council shop units were finished in 2018, they have remained empty. We know that, especially during the pandemic, people are increasingly looking to shops and services near to where they live. Local shops add to the vitality and sense of community in a new area like this.
We call on Cambridge City Council to investigate why attempts to find leaseholders for the shops on Hobson Square have failed, and to take urgent action to fill the premises by more innovative means if necessary, such as short term leases and 'pop-ups' to bring more varied shopping to Trumpington.
