LIB DEMS CELEBRATE COUNCIL BY-ELECTION WIN

Liberal Democrats are celebrating their latest win on Cambridge City Council last night. Immy Blackburn Horgan’s election as city councillor for Queen Edith’s ward was the second Liberal Democrat gain on the council this year.

 

At 24, Immy will be one of the youngest city councillors. She came forward as a campaigner in her part of Queen Edith’s, where she has already jointly founded a residents’ association, set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme with the police, and with children and others, created a community garden. A member of the laboratory staff at Addenbrookes, she volunteers at the Food Hub and elsewhere. 

Lib Dem leader Cllr Tim Bick said:

“The win last night was a tribute to Immy and her authentic track record in her community, which is within the long tradition of Lib Dems in Queen Edith’s. 

“We are particularly delighted to have made our second Lib Dem gain on the city council this year, making us the party ‘on the up’, at a time when so many people are fed up with a lot of the political choice on offer. 

“As Queen Edith’s lies within the highly marginal Tory/Lib Dem parliamentary constituency of South Cambridgeshire, this win augurs well for the upcoming general election. 

“Overall, in a city of young people, it is fantastic to see a young person like Immy coming through to make a contribution in the community and public life of the city.” 

New Lib Dem Cllr Immy Blackburn Horgan said: 

“I’m delighted and a little overwhelmed with the confidence expressed in me. I’d like to thank all those who voted for me yesterday as well as those who worked so hard for our win. I feel I have a lot to learn – but I’m really looking forward to the new role, working for the whole community and thinking of the future, as well as the present of Queen Edith’s and the city as a whole.”
