Dr Ahmad Rushdhi

I am Dr. Ahmad Rushdhi, also known as Dr. Ru or DrAR, and I am the Liberal Democrat candidate for Cherry Hinton in Cambridge. Having moved to Cambridge from Sri Lanka in 2022, I have made Cherry Hinton my home. This has provided me with the opportunity to engage closely with local residents and gain a comprehensive understanding of the critical issues affecting our community.

As a physician specializing in clinical nutrition, my professional focus is on preventive medicine and public health. I am affiliated with Addenbrooke’s Hospital and also maintain a practice in London. My work is dedicated to disease prevention and promoting healthier lifestyles through education, nutrition, and early intervention. I firmly believe that enhancing public health extends beyond healthcare services to encompass the development of robust community well-being.

Since my arrival in Cherry Hinton, I have actively participated in community life, regularly interacting with residents from diverse backgrounds, including those employed in the NHS and other essential services.

Residents have communicated several practical concerns, including traffic congestion, road maintenance and potholes, and the enhancement of neighborhood safety. I am committed to collaborating with the council, police, and community partners to address these issues and implement effective solutions.

Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding anti-social behavior in the vicinity of certain Voi e-scooter parking areas, as well as knife crime, disruptive moped noise, and theft around local supermarkets. I will work in conjunction with neighborhood police teams and residents’ associations to support coordinated action and strengthen community safety initiatives.

Public health remains a paramount passion of mine. I collaborate closely with General Practitioners and other healthcare professionals, and I aspire to promote local community health awareness programs. Furthermore, I also share health education through my social media platforms.

If elected, my priorities will be to engage with residents, foster community cohesion, and contribute to the development of a healthier, safer, and more resilient Cherry Hinton.
