Dr Ahmad Rushdhi

I am Dr. Ahmad Rushdhi, also known as Dr. Ru or DrAR, and I am the Liberal Democrat candidate for Cherry Hinton in Cambridge. Having moved to Cambridge from Sri Lanka in 2022, my family and I have made Cherry Hinton our home. We moved to Cherry Hinton due to professional opportunities and educational prospects for my two daughters and son. The warm reception from the Cherry Hinton community has inspired me to contribute meaningfully to this area.

Residents have proactively shared significant concerns impacting their daily lives. My background as a physician specializing in clinical nutrition has highlighted that my professional focus on preventive medicine and public health resonates strongly with local priorities.

Having been affiliated with Addenbrooke’s Hospital for the past four years, I intend to leverage my expertise to advocate for local health improvement, guiding residents in promoting healthier lifestyles through education, nutrition, and early intervention. I firmly believe in this approach, as enhancing public health benefits all community members.

My family has actively integrated into Cherry Hinton, appreciating the diverse groups here, including the Residents' Association and vital services such as food and community hubs. I dedicate time to engage with residents from all backgrounds, including those employed in the NHS and other care and essential services.

Residents have articulated several practical concerns, including traffic congestion, road maintenance, potholes, and the enhancement of neighborhood safety. I am committed to collaborating with the council, police, and community partners to address these issues and implement effective solutions.

Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding antisocial behavior near certain Voi e-scooter parking areas, as well as knife crime, disruptive moped noise, and theft around local supermarkets. I will work in conjunction with neighborhood police teams, the council's antisocial behavior team, and our Cherry Hinton Residents’ Association to support coordinated actions that strengthen community safety initiatives.

If elected, my priorities will be to engage with residents, foster community cohesion, and contribute to the development of a healthier, safer, and more resilient Cherry Hinton.
