Cheney Payne calls for GP guarantee

Lib Dem Cheney Payne wants everyone in Cambridge to be able to access a doctor, as and when they need to.

Cheney said: “Cambridge is a growing city with more and more new homes being built all over the city. This means services we all rely on - like local doctors - can start to feel the strain.”

“For too long developers have got away with just building more houses, without the services to support them. It's time the Government took action to make them pay for those vital services.”

Since 2015, GP surgeries here have taken on an extra 3418 homes each on average.

The Lib Dems are calling for a new 'GP Guarantee'. This would mean doctor surgeries must be expanded - or new ones built - BEFORE homes on new developments can be sold.

"Under our plans, developers would have to help fund new surgeries," added Cheney. "This would make sure new and existing residents aren't left without GP access."
