Guy Mills - a local champion for West Chesterton

I am a local resident in West Chesterton and have lived here my whole life. I am very proud of my home town and place of birth  and the leisure and green spaces that it provides. As an advocate for healthy living, I would love to see greater access to sports and leisure facilities across the city. As an avid cyclist, I understand that for many people in Cambridge including myself cycling is an integral part to our city wide identity.

For a number of years, during the summer months I have taken international students across the city on historic tours of the city. Recently, I have seen deterioration of public facilities within the city, including the closure of public toilets and inadequate maintenance of those that remain. I believe the city of Cambridge deserves better.

As a physiotherapy trainee and during my time at Addenbrookes I have an awareness of the importance of safeguarding our physical health. I believe the council has a responsibility to safeguard residents and to provide  them with sporting and leisure facilities,to aid wellbeing. I have seen a large increase in electric scooter related injuries recently and believe our city council isn’t doing enough to stop dangerous high-speed electric scooters on our commons and pavements.

As a psychology graduate, I am also passionate about mental health and believe the council should do more to foster a happy city by improving green areas and should end the local tennis court use fee that labour has introduced. I don’t believe taxation on physical activity is the correct way to support residents.

Results of last year's election in West Chesterton - LD 1204, Lab 1030, Grn 533, Ref 197, Con 160

The Lib Dems are winning in West Chesterton - and are the clear alternative to Labour this year.

The Liberal Democrats are winning here in West Chesterton- and can beat Labour in this year's city council elections and overtake them as the largest party on the City Council.

In last year's city council by-election, it was a two-horse race between the Lib Dems and Labour. Cllr Jamie Dalzell was elected with 1204 votes to Labour's 1030.

Only the Lib Dems can beat Labour in West Chesterton this May. A vote for the Green Party, Conservatives or Reform risks keeping Labour in power for another year and continuing their record of letting Cambridge down.

The Lib Dems are also the party with momentum in Cambridgeshire going into this year's local elections. In the 2024 General Election, the 3 Lib Dems were elected for the seats surrounding Cambridge, as Lib Dem Cheney Payne finished as the closest challenger to Labour here in the city. Last year, the Liberal Democrats gained overall control of the County Council for the first time in its history.

This year, the Lib Dems are once again the clear challengers to Labour in Cambridge. As the main opposition on the City Council with 12 councillors, only the Lib Dems can overtake Labour and replace their failing leadership of the City Council. With less than half the number of councillors the Lib Dems have, the Green Party are too far behind and won't be able to overtake Labour. The Conservatives with one councillor and Reform with none have no chance.

Vote Liberal Democrat on May 7th for the real alternative to Labour in Cambridge and to send Keir Starmer a message he cannot ignore.
