Oxford Road Junction Petition
In early January, bids for Local Highways Improvement (LHI) funding can be submitted. This funding provides money to make small scale improvements to the roads around Cambridgeshire. In Cambridge, each County Councillor can apply for 5 funding bids.
Many of you have raised to me the dangers of the pavement on the junction pf Oxford and Huntingdon Roads. The changes made to the crossing point at the junction of Huntingdon Road and Oxford Road a few years back have made it much easier to cross Huntingdon Road.
However, the changes made a conflict zone on the corner of Oxford Road and Huntingdon Road, where cyclists and pedestrians are expected to share the same small corner of pavement. I want to solve this.
I met with highways officers earlier in the Autumn, and we devised a plan to widen the pavement on the corner to allow space for cyclists and pedestrians, whilst maintaining enough space for 2 cars to pass each other at the entrance to Oxford Road. I would like to apply to LHI funding to make this improvement.
In order for LHI bids to be successful, we must demonstrate public support. Therefore, I am asking you to sign the below petition. Without public support, LHI funding bids fail, as it is one of the scoring criteria.
Oxford Road Junction Petition
We, the undersigned, call on Cambridgeshire County Council to support our bid to widen the pavement on the corner of Oxford and Huntingdon Roads to allow space for cyclists and pedestrians, whilst maintaining enough space for 2 cars to pass each other at the entrance to Oxford Road.
