CAMBRIDGESHIRE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS DELIVER CRISIS SUPPORT FOR EVERY RESIDENT IN NEED
Cambridgeshire County Council's Liberal Democrat administration has announced a comprehensive, fully funded package of support for residents facing financial hardship.
The plan commits over £2 million to a flexible crisis payments scheme covering food, heating, bills and essential goods, available to any resident in need. It is backed by the procurement of LIFT which will proactively identify households at risk and connect them to support before crisis strikes.
Cllr Alison Whelan (Ely North), Chair of the Communities and Social Inclusion Committee said:
“Our plan is ambitious, fair, and grounded in evidence. It means that all residents facing financial hardship are able to get support, not just one group of people.
“I am proud of what we have delivered in Cambridgeshire. Despite the Labour Government replacing the old funding scheme with a new one that is both less money and more restricted in how it can be spent, we have delivered a scheme that means we can help all groups of people across our County.”
The Council's highly successful income maximisation programme, which secured over £1.5 million in additional income for 1,480 residents last year, will continue in full. A new £1.5 million outreach fund will extend advice services to residents who are isolated rurally, digitally or otherwise, and over 60 volunteer-led community hubs across the county will receive dedicated funding.
