Cllr Olaf Hauk

Cllr Olaf Hauk

Hello - I am Olaf Hauk, one of your three City Councillors for Trumpington.

I was first elected in 2021, re-elected in 2022, and I am standing again in this May’s City Council election. It has been a real privilege to represent and work for Trumpington residents over the past five years.

During this time, I have focused on practical improvements that make a difference to everyday life — from helping secure CCTV near fly-tipping hotspots, to getting overgrown vegetation cleared along busy Trumpington Road footpath, working with police and council officers to tackle anti-social behaviour, getting the council to allow traders on Hobson Square, and assisting tenants facing issues with their housing associations. I have also worked with my local Liberal Democrat colleagues and MPs to make the case for a fairer deal for Cambridge. It has been rewarding work, but there is still much more to do. I am ready for new challenges.

I have worked in Trumpington for over 25 years as a cognitive neuroscientist and have lived in several parts of Cambridge during that time. I was born in Germany and am now proud to be both a British and German citizen, and a committed European.

Cambridge is a place that attracts people from across the world to learn, work, and build their futures. That brings huge opportunities, but also real challenges — particularly around affordable housing, transport, and the environmental impact of growth. Trumpington, as the city’s largest ward and home to major new developments, sits right at the heart of these changes.

As a Liberal Democrat councillor, I am committed to helping our community manage growth in a fair and sustainable way — listening to residents, finding practical solutions, and working constructively to get things done. Team work is essential in this endeavour.

I would be honoured to continue serving the diverse Trumpington community and working with you and my team for sustainable change. Please lend me and my teammate John Grimwood your vote on May 7th.

Result of last year's local election in Trumpington - LD 1111, Lab 726, Con 473, Grn 395, Ref 275

The Lib Dems are winning in Trumpington - and are the clear alternative to Labour this year.

The Liberal Democrats are winning here in Trumpington - and can beat Labour in this year's city council elections and overtake them as the largest party on the City Council.

In last year's county council elections, it was a two-horse race between the Lib Dems and Labour with Cllr David Levien winning. The Conservatives and the Green Party were in a distant third and fourth place.

Only the Lib Dems can beat Labour in Trumpington this May. A vote for the Green Party, Conservatives or Reform risks keeping Labour in power for another year and continuing their record of letting Cambridge down.

The Lib Dems are also the party with momentum in Cambridgeshire going into this year's local elections. In the 2024 General Election, the 3 Lib Dems were elected for the seats surrounding Cambridge, as Lib Dem Cheney Payne finished as the closest challenger to Labour here in the city. Last year, the Liberal Democrats gained overall control of the County Council for the first time in its history.

This year, the Lib Dems are once again the clear challengers to Labour in Cambridge. As the main opposition on the City Council with 12 councillors, only the Lib Dems can overtake Labour and replace their failing leadership of the City Council. With less than half the number of councillors the Lib Dems have, the Green Party are too far behind and won't be able to overtake Labour. The Conservatives with one councillor and Reform with none have no chance.

Vote Liberal Democrat on May 7th for the real alternative to Labour in Cambridge and to send Keir Starmer a message he cannot ignore.
