West Chesterton Resident Parking Scheme Update

10 Sep 2025

Further to my previous letter, as promised I’m finally able to write to you with some dates for the implementation of the residents parking scheme.

First, to highlight our FAQ which we update continuously: bit.ly/milton-rps-faq

Second, I will again be holding some more online meetings for those who wish to discuss anything about the scheme with me, over zoom - all residents welcome:

Thursday, 18th September, 1400 - 1500: bit.ly/parkingfaq4
Thursday, 25th September, 1900 - 2000: bit.ly/parkingfaq5
Friday, 26th September, 1800 - 1900: bit.ly/parkingfaq6

Implementation Timeline - Key Dates

The dates you need to know:
•    15th September onwards - Contractor letters being delivered to residents (staggered through the week)
•    29th September - Installation work begins (weather dependent)
•    18th, 25th & 26th September - Final residents' meetings before implementation

When I took over as your County Councillor in 2025, I inherited a residents' parking scheme that had been poorly managed. That is why Jamie and I have collated a list of all the issues from resident feedback to go to the contractors so they are aware of local people’s concerns when implementing the scheme.

You can see the list of issues here - bit.ly/miltonrpsconcerns. If you want to raise any further potential issues please let us know so we can raise them with the contractors.

Some particular issues and questions have been raised that we want to address in this letter:
•    Dropped kerbs not showing on the published indicative plans
Approved driveways will not get bays in front of them regardless of plans (ie those that have dropped kerbs)
Unapproved driveways (i.e. no dropped kerb or no approved dropped kerb) will still get  bays in front if indicated; in future residents can apply for a dropped kerb, but would have to pay for that and  the removal of the bay
Residents can apply now for a new dropped kerb and if approved plans could be altered before start
•    Digital Permits: as many of you may know the County Council moved to a digital permit system; this has already been rolled out to other areas, and many teething problems with it have been resolved, which your scheme will benefit from. That said: we realise there are some residents who experience difficulty with digital systems for many reasons. Alternatives in special cases are available, please do not hesitate to contact me if this applies to you.
•    Why is there a notice of a Road Closure (“TTRO”) from the 10th September to next year? The Council need the legal right to close the various roads in the scheme in order for contractors to paint the lines and install signs for the same. In order to ensure this would be in place once the contractors were ready a large contingency was planned for the dates - hence the range. The road won’t actually be closed this whole time, only when the works carried out (see dates at the start of this letter).

If you have any concerns about the scheme or need support with any aspect of implementation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
